LAST WEEKS OF SALES! SHOP SMART!

July is here! And it is difficult to resist to tempting “SALES” in every window. Decide to hit the boutiques for ‘some sales shopping’? Stop right there! Don`t buy randomly! You need a plan!

We decided to consult experienced Personal Shopper Carolina Rodriguez Barros from Dare to Glow for advice about how to shop during sales period.

Here are some of the secrets that she revealed that would help you save money and keep away from buying useless stuff.

1/ First, go and check your wardrobe before going on sales shopping, so that you know exactly what you need. ‘Never, ever, go out shopping without the list and a budget.’

2/ The best items to be purchased at sales are:

  • Belts, gloves, umbrellas
  • Cashmere
  • Evening Dress – Only if makes you feel fabulous!
  • Handbags and luggage
  • Make-up and hair-care products
  • Socks and Tights
  • Underwear
  • Scented Candles
  • Signature furniture

3/ Where to buy:

  • Start from Department Stores where you can find several brands on the same surface – Manor, Bon Genie, Globus carry fantastic brands
  • Your favorite boutiques
  • Signature Furniture on sale can be found at Teo Jacob in Carouge, Geneva.
  • Signature handbags such as Marie Bag from Accent Designs are great items on sale period.

4/  Go to your favorite boutiques or department store few days in advance the sales with your shopping list. Try items on and decide what are you going to take. The day of the sale, you already know what to buy and you will avoid the queue on the fitting room!

5/ Never buy:

  • Last season’s most fashionable item
  • Shoes that don’t fit you – but are the brand you only afford on sales
  • Anything to which you attached the phrase ‘this might be useful one day’
  • An item in a colour that makes you look sick or drab
  • Anything damaged
  • Things that might fit you when you have lost weight – they are not the motivation you really need!

Getting the ‘best deal’ possible might be an illusion, ff you buy an item at a very good price but you only wear it once. Don`t forget the simple fashion math’s:

price of item / times wore = cost per wearing

Smiling tips:

Wishing you enjoyable shopping!
